SkillsUSA Events – Winter Park Tech’s 1st year participation

What a thrill to go to Mid Florida Tech on Friday afternoon and watch as our students (along with many other OCPS students) participated in and then WON many of the SkillsUSA events!! As you know we participated in SkillsUSA this year for the first time and I was hoping we would have at least one medalist! So imagine my glee when we actually won more than ONE!!

Congratulations to the following winners:

Advertising Design

• Heather Hunsinger – First place (DE student)
• Olliver Schlienger – Third place (Postsecondary student)

Computer Maintenance Technology

• David Espinosa – Third place (Postsecondary student)

Extemporaneous Speaking

• Lourdes Isidore – Third place (Postsecondary student)

First Aid-CPR

• Dayrelis Mesa – First place (DE student)
• Marisol Macias – Second place (DE student)
• Yomara Nieves – Third place (DE student)

This is a real impressive showing as WPT students took 7 medals out of 10 regional contests in which students participated!   Electricity was in the air at the awards ceremony!

The First Aid-CPR winners were also coached by SAC member Kevin Green.  Kevin spent two mornings a week for many weeks working with the students to prepare for the contest.
