What is Dual Enrollment?
Dual enrollment provides high school students the opportunity to take technical elective courses at Winter Park Tech while obtaining the required academic courses to graduate at their local school. The program is designed to grant students who complete the required competencies a maximum of three high school elective credits for each school year. All career and technical programs that are offered at Winter Park Tech and Avalon Campus are open to dual enrollment students, however some programs have prerequisites that must be met.
Technical programs are competency based, and most allow the students to progress at an individual pace. However, each program does establish a minimum number of competencies a dual enrollment student must master to be awarded credit.
This program allows students to begin preparation for a career of their choice, at no cost to them, while still in high school. At the very least, it allows students to “test drive” their future career, while earning elective credit.
Transportation is provided to and from Winter Park Tech and the Avalon Campus. The only cost students may incur is a small lab fee and for uniforms, required for some of the medical programs.
